The National Sleep Foundation found out in a 2011 poll that 92% of people agree that a comfortable mattress is important for sleep. A decrease in stress
A study conducted in 2009 showed a significant difference in stress levels. For 28 consecutive nights, 59 healthy men and women slept on their usual mattresses. In another set of 28 consecutive nights, the same group of men and women slept in new mattresses. In the study, they were asked to evaluate their levels of stress for each set of 28 consecutive nights. The study found out that the new mattresses gave a significant decrease in levels of stress, meaning new and comfortable mattresses reduce the anxiety, irritability and other manifestations of stress.
A host of microscopic creatures feed on the dead skin cells you shed naturally and most of these microscopic creatures are found on your bed! Scary, right? And these creatures might give you allergies or worsen asthma attacks. These microscopic creatures are commonly called as dust mites.
When you sleep on super old mattresses, you may be prone to stiff neck and back pain. This is basically why you need to change your mattress after a period of time (two and a half years to three years can be the minimum). Old mattresses do not have the softness and smoothness as compared to new ones. Old mattresses can also be very uncomfortable and dirty to lie on even if you have newly washed bed sheets and linen.
